6GMobile wants to position itself as MVNE+

Dutch mobile operator 6Gmobile will have Kruidvat Mobiel as its first customer. The operator sees itself more as an MVNE, general director Harry van Streun said. 6Gmobile will put together a website for Kruidvat and upgrade online payment platform iDEAL. 6Gmobile buys capacity from KPN's radio network. Meanwhile, its core network of databases, nodes and switches was developed inhouse, with an emphasis on low operational costs and flexibility. In August last year, MVNO Tringg was launched, a SIM-only service offering unlimited calling and SMS for EUR 24.50 per month. Tringg now has around 10,000 customers without having launched any real advertising campaign. 6Gmobile is busy developing new applications, which Van Streun described in an earlier interview with Telecompaper as "mobile calling 2.0". One idea is to develop services for mobile phones with a continuous data connection. Content providers can use this traffic to communicate directly with a target group, at much lower costs than via SMS, even including pictures and video. The company is planning loyalty schemes to increase revenue and combat churn.
