A1 to terminate NFC mobile payment service
A1 Telekom Austria plans to terminate its NFC mobile payment service on 31 December, company spokeswomen Livia Dandrea-Boehm has confirmed to 'WebStandard'. She said the move was in response to feedback from customers who want a national and international mobile payment service, which would only be possible with the co-operation of all network operators. A1 launched a pilot project with partners McDonald's and Merkur in April to support payments using NFC-enabled handsets. The project is also understood to have suffered from technical problems, with customers complaining that payments took a long time and often did not work. The spokeswoman added that A1 would use the experience of this pilot for new projects, with the company already working on an A1 Visa Card app for NFC smartphones.
