Indian mobile operator Aircel has awarded an order to Alvarion for WiMAX equipment. Aircel will use the BreezeMAX 3000 for rolling out wireless broadband services in 50 cities in northern and eastern India. Aircel already has deployments in eight cities and is using the Alvarion equipment to overlay and expand its current mobile and broadband networks and offer data services to small- and medium-sized businesses. The BreezeMAX uses the 3.3 GHz frequency band allocated for WiMAX in India and is based on the IEEE 802.16 standards and OFDM technology.
