Android increases share of smartphone market - study
New data from Kantar WorldPanel shows that Android increased its share of the smartphone market in the 12 weeks to mid-April, Reuters reports. Android gained market share strongly in the seven major markets of the UK, US, Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. In Spain and Italy, the market share of Android more than doubled year-on-year to 72 percent and 49 percent respectively. In Germany, Android's share of the smartphone market almost doubled to 62 percent. Microsoft's Windows Phone is showing signs of growth after an alliance with Nokia, with the market share of Windows Phone in Germany rising more than twofold over the year to 6 percent, and increasing to 3-4 percent in the UK, US, Italy and France.
