Comstar-UTS has partnered with Fon Wireless to build the Comstar-Fon Wi-Fi based internet access network in Moscow, which will form part of the global Fon network. Later, Comstar-UTS plans to bring Comstar-Fon network development to other parts of Russia. Initially, Comstar-Fon subscriptions are available only to broadband internet users of ISP provider Comstar-Direct who rent Comstar-Direct modems. The Comstar-Fon network will be built and expanded by users who have installed Comstar-Direct rental specialised Wi-Fi routers. Fon Wi-Fi routers will be available in all sales and customer service centres of Comstar-Direct for a fee of RUB 30 per month. Comstar-Fon subscribers will be able to use similar Fon hotspots installed by other users all over the world, including all Comstar-Fon hotspots, for free. Active Fon users can use their login and password to get a guest access to any Fon hotspot around the world, including those of Comstar-Fon. The Fon Wi-Fi network has more than 400,000 active access points around the world. At a later stage, the Fon Wi-Fi module will be integrated into the typical ADSL modem which ensures internet access for Comstar-Direct subscribers. Such modems will be rented to Comstar-Direct subscribers in 2009.
