Wednesday 3 June 2009 | 11:06 CET

Microsoft OEM division corporate vice president Steve Guggenheimer announced the release dates for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 at Computex 2009. Under the planned schedule, Microsoft will deliver the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) code in the second half of July, while Windows 7 will become generally available on 22 October and Windows Server 2008 R2 will become broadly available at the same time. Microsoft will make also available an upgrade option, so partners can offer customers the ability to purchase a Windows Vista-based PC and install Windows 7 when it's ready, Guggenheim added.
