Belgian SMS, traffic use soars during Christmas

Belgians sent around 36.8 million text messages over the Christmas period, according to data from KPN/Base, Mobistar and Proximus, as reported in DataNews. There were also more messages sent via Twitter, Facebook and other social media, a strong rise from the year before. KPN/Base customers send a bit over 8 million text messages between Monday 24 December at 08.00 pm and Tuesday 25 December at 08.00 am, an increase of 15 percent from 2011. Mobistar reported14.3 million SMSs, up 5 percent. Proximus recorded 14.5 million, the same as the year before. In terms of data, KPN/Base recorded traffic at 2.28 million MB, soaring 270 percent from the year before. Mobistar saw traffic lift 141 percent to 1.65 million MB. Proximus saw its traffic almost double to 2.6 million MB.
