Canadian operator Bell Mobility has selected smart card developer Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) to deliver roaming service to clients, while enhancing its network efficiency. G&D has supplied its SmartRoam platform to Bell Mobility to work in concert with other network roaming elements for a centralised ORS. That is possible due to the G&D software which creates and optimises OTA updates based on Sim-card and client characteristics. By connecting clients to preferred roaming partner networks, SmartRoam assists mobile operators such as Bell Mobility reduce related expenses. G&D's patented technology enables OTA provisioning of roaming preferences and Sim ToolKit commands based on real-time events received from the network. SmartRoam adheres to industry standards, is transparent to the client and does not cause disruptions to the visited network due to active roaming-steering methods. SmartRoam also offers mobile service providers a level of intelligence with the ability to route callers to a specific roaming partner based on device and usage patterns. Additionally, by managing roaming files and only updating relevant information for active roamers, SmartRoam uses less OTA capacity assisting to minimise the load on international SS7 network elements.
