Brazil sees 53% increase in online threat notifications

The number of notifications received by Cert.br (Center for Studies, Response and Treatment of Security Incidents in Brazil) increased 53 percent in 2011. In total, there were almost 399,000 notifications involving, for example, fraud attempts through e-mail, forgery of bank sites, malicious programs. Warnings of fraud attempts increased by 30 percent compared to 2010, adding about 40,000 notifications. Warnings about fake pages for banks and e-commerce sites (phishing) increased 62 percent compared to the previous year. Notifications related to scams using trojans grew by only 1.5 percent on 2010. Nearly 15,000 reports were related to attacks on web servers, which grew by 78 percent in one year.
