China Telecom's 3G base nearing 100 mln

China Mobile ended August with 750.42 million mobile customers as the operator added 5.45 million new customers in the month. The total includes 158.69 million 3G subscribers, up from 147.05 million in July. Meanwhile, China Unicom reported 3.90 million net adds for August, bringing its mobile subscriber base to 269.47 million. The number of 3G subscribers increased by 3.93 million to bring the 3G total to 107.82 million while the GSM base fell by 30,000 to 161.66 million. Unicom also gained 514,000 fixed broadband subscribers to bring its broadband base to 63.68 million while its local access line subscriber base fell by 298,000 in August to 89.03 million. China Telecom ended the month with 178.64 million mobile customers as net adds totalled 2.05 million. The operator grew its 3G base grew by 3 million to 93.39 million in August. China Telecom also attracted 710,000 fixed broadband subscribers to reach a total of 97.28 million while its local access line subscriber base fell by 600,000 to 158.57 million.
