Sao Tome and Principe will award its second mobile network operator licence next year, marking the end the monopoly of CST, a joint venture between the state and Portugal Telecom. Infos Plus Gabon reports that market liberalisation began in 2004 and that CST currently has around 120,000 mobile and 1,000 internet customers. The new operator, to launch before the end of 2012, will invest an estimated USD 25 million in a cable installation and to significantly raise Sao Tome and Principe's international bandwidth.
