Dutch parties try again for free Wi-Fi in Nijmegen

Dutch Independent Party D66 and Green Party GroenLinks are having another go at providing the city centre of Nijmegen with free WiFi and have sent some questions to the municipal board. The parties feel that free Wi-Fi is aligned with the city's shopkeeper's "economic offensive" goals in the Nijmegen area. A procedure set in motion in 2010/2011 showed that the costs of such a system would outweigh use and convenience. D66 and GroenLinks want to try again and point to the role of the internet as part of the "new shopping", where online orientation and purchases play a role. The groups hope the city government will reconsider the matter.
