Fastweb picks Pirelli for Collina Fleming FTTH deployment

Friday 23 July 2010 | 09:00 CET | News
Broadband access and photonics company Pirelli Broadband Solutions has won a contract from Italian operator Fastweb. The Italian operator will use Pirelli's customer premises equipment (CPE) for its FTTH deployment in the Collina Fleming residential district of Rome. Under the terms of the contract, Pirelli will provide Fastweb with its FTTH access gateways, designed to support Wi-Fi, VoIP telephony, and high-throughput connectivity for end users' multimedia devices. The Collina Fleming deployment in Rome is the first phase of the 'Fiber for Italy' project promoted by Fastweb, Vodafone and Wind to provide ultra-broadband connectivity with speeds up to 100 Mbps for residential users and up to 1 Gbps for business customers via a point-to-point network architecture. The new network is expected to support high-speed internet connectivity, as well as telemedicine, e-government, teleconference services and HD video transmission.
