Foxconn to manufacture iPhone 5 and iPads in Brazil

Tuesday 27 November 2012 | 13:32 CET | News
Taiwanese company Foxconn has received authorisation from the Brazilian government to begin production of the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini on the premises that Apple has in Brazil, taking advantage of the Computer Law to assemble smartphones in the country. According to Brazilian weekly Veja, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has granted the necessary permission to Foxconn for the production at the factory located in Jundiai. The iPhone 5 is not yet for sale in Brazil, but it seems that the first shipments are coming from Asian factories. Some analysts estimate that the price may drop by 25 percent.
