Gameloft Q1 sales up 14% on smartphone, tablet growth

French video game publisher Gameloft reported revenues up 14 percent to EUR 44.8 million in the first quarter, compared to EUR 39.5 million in the first quarter of 2011. The company said its growth was driven by games for smartphones and tablets, as well as the dynamic markets of emerging countries. Sales of games for smartphones and touchscreen tablets rose by 59 percent on the first quarter of last year, and accounted for 40 percent of Gameloft's consolidated turnover in the first quarter. Some 45 million people played a free or pay game from Gameloft on iOS or Android in the last 30 days. The group expects very strong acceleration in revenue growth in the second quarter thanks to its new games and rising smartphone and tablet sales. Gameloft confirmed its objective of strong growth for the year.
