Monday 14 January 2013 | 23:08 CET | News
Worldwide sales of handsets last year reached 1.74 billion, up 1.8 percent from 2011, Yonhap writes citing a Strategy Analytics report. The year-on-year growth is attributed to strong demand for the latest smartphone models. This, combined with seasonal demand boosted fourth quarter shipments to 501.1 million units. Shipments in Q1 last year totalled 413.8 million, 405.6 million in Q2, and 424.3 million in Q3. Handset sales for this year are forecast at 1.83 billion, up 5 percent while shipments in 2014 are expected to reach 1.89 billion, up 3.5 percent year-on-year.
