Indian smartphone users spend less time on calling, texting

Indian smartphone users now spends more time on entertainment and internet based content than on voice calling and text messages, according to a study by Nielsen and Informate Mobile Intelligence. The average Indian smartphone user spends 2.5 hours a day using their phones with 72 percent of their time spent on activities such as gaming, entertainment, applications and internet related content, while just 28 percent of their time is now used for voice calls and text messaging. Younger smartphone users (15-25 years) spend more than 3 hours per day on their phones and spend 60 percent of the time on entertainment & browsing. About 68 percent of 15-24 year olds used a chat application last month as compared to 42 percent for the over 31 year olds and data usage for 3G users was close to 44 percent more than 2G users. An Android user installs an average of nineteen applications in a month compared to ten applications for a Symbian user. About 84 percent of Android users played a game in the last month compared to 59 percent for Symbian users.
