Isis mobile payments service to launch in two test markets
Isis, the NFC mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, will go live in two test markets on Monday 22 October, reports Dow Jones Newswires. It will allow users to make purchases by tapping smartphones equipped with a special chip against merchant payment terminals. The service will support up to 20 handset types by end-2012, according to a statement from Jaymee Johnson, head of marketing for the service. The trials will take place in Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas.

4% of US adults have paid for items by tapping smartphone

A combined 13 percent of adults in the US have either paid by tapping their smartphone at a merchant's point-of-service terminal (4%), or have witnessed it first-hand (8%), with predictably stronger experience levels among smartphone owners (18%, 7% and 11% respectively), according to Harris. Six in ten US adults are indicating that they believe smartphone payments will eventually replace both payment card (66%) and cash (61%) transactions for a majority of purchases.

Isis launches Mobile Wallet in Austin and Salt Lake City

Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, has announced the availability of the Isis Mobile Wallet in Austin and Salt Lake City. Consumers can now visit AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon retail locations and select from nine Isis Ready handsets, with an expected 11 additional handsets coming to market by end-2012. The Isis Mobile Wallet application can be downloaded from Google Play and is compatible with American Express, Capital One or Chase credit cards
