Lagos State Government has taken over the regulation of telecommunications, television and radio masts in the state following the violent storm that hit the metropolis on 13 February, The Punch reported online. Joe Igbokwe, the General Manager of Lagos State Urban Furniture Regulatory Unit, under the Ministry of Physical Planning, said the winds had brought down rooftops, billboards, trees, telecommunication structures and electric poles, among other things. There had been disruptions to telephony networks, too. Igbokwe said the ministry had invited mast users to discuss the issue with the aim of preventing any more occurrences of this kind. He said the ministry would give more clarifications and directives on the matter in the next few days.
