Megafon demonstrates mobile connection in the Arctic

Russian mobile operator Megafon and Morsvyazsputnik, which is Inmarsat's licensed operator in Russia, have demonstrated mobile connectivity in the Arctic Ocean onboard the icebreaker Yamal. Morsvyazsputink has deployed the Inmarsat FleetBroadband base station in Tiksi port and Megafon has installed its femtocell on the Yamal. The system enabled mobile connection services on the ship, located 30 kilometres north of Tiksi. Various rescue training exercises were being carried out on the Yamal alongside a meeting of the Arctic Council.
