Mellanox introduces VPI adapter ICs, cards

Tuesday 7 June 2011 | 06:02 CET | News
Connectivity service provider for servers and data centres Mellanox Technologies has launched its ConnectX-3 Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI) adapter ICs and cards, providing FDR 56Gbps InfiniBand and 10/40GbE connectivity combined with enhanced PCI Express 3.0 host bus. ConnectX-3's design, low power, and protocol capacity delivers high level of I/O throughput while reducing system power consumption and enabling networking topologies. Utilising FDR 56Gbps InfiniBand and the support of PCIe Gen3, ConnectX-3 ICs double the throughput of prior generations and include GPU and MPI collectives acceleration engines to deliver computing application efficiency, accelerating the pace for Exascale computing. ConnectX-3's 40GbE connectivity, with backwards compliance to 10GbE enables to set the stage for optimised data centres connected with high-bandwidth Ethernet. With its low power and fabric agnostic capacities, ConnectX-3 provides the system for converged I/O infrastructures. ConnectX-3 ICs and adapter cards are sampling with availability scheduled for the third quarter. It will be available in multiple configurations, including single and dual port versions of 10GbE, 40GbE, QDR and FDR InfiniBand, as well as VPI cards that support both protocols.
