Meraki releases enhanced enterprise 802.11n access points

Cloud-based wireless networking company Meraki has released its enhanced enterprise 802.11n access points. These APs feature improved performance and a one-inch thin design. The two new access points upgrade Meraki's 802.11n lineup. The Meraki MR16 is a dual-concurrent 802.11n access point, designed for demanding enterprise and campus deployments. The Meraki MR12 is a single-radio 802.11n access point, suited for small branches, teleworkers and home office deployments. 4G 2×2 MIMO chipsets deliver speeds up to 300Mbps for the MR12 and 600Mbps for the MR16. Both APs feature improved transmit power and receive sensitivity over their predecessors, while their high capacity design supports over 100 users per access point. The APs' small footprint, and internal antennas enable mounting in high traffic environments such as lobbies and conference rooms. The MR12 and MR16 feature enterprise features, including spectrum analysis, application-aware traffic shaping, and a policy firewall for guest, user, and group-based access control. Meraki's enhanced APs come in a low-volume, recyclable packaging, with documentation provided online. Ninety percent of the access point hardware itself is recyclable, and Meraki's multi-tenant cloud-based controller radically reduces power consumption and cooling. The MR12 and MR16 include complete mounting kit with wall and ceiling options, single-handed installation, flexible power with 802.3af Power over Ethernet or DC Power, and support for gateway or mesh repeater operation. Settings are automatically downloaded from the cloud; there is no proprietary serial console CLI and they feature automatic RF planning, power control, and mesh configuration. They also feature integrated, single circuit board design, upgrades and patches delivered from the cloud and extensive factory testing and lifetime warranty. The MR12 with a list price of USD 399 and MR16 with a list price of USD 649 are available for immediate order through a Meraki authorised reseller.
