Nokia Siemens offers support for spectrum refarming

News
Nokia Siemens Networks announced new software in its Liquid Radio portfolio to help GSM operators refarm spectrum for 3G and 4G services. Operators re-farming GSM frequencies to support 3G and 4G roll-outs can free up to 30 percent of their spectrum, reduce total cost of ownership by 20 percent and potentially double their average 3G and 4G data speeds, NSN claims. GSM-only network operators can potentially quadruple their capacity while lowering energy costs by 14 percent. Commercially available already, the software work's with NSN's Flexi base station radio equipment and incorporates technologies such as Orthogonal Sub Channel, Smart Resource Adaptation, Precise Paging and Dynamic Frequency and Channel Allocation. The new Flexible MCPA (Multi Carrier Power Amplifier) Tx power pooling feature enables dynamic sharing of radio resources for GSM carriers, allocating the resources where the usage is. This reduces the output power needed for GSM, and in the case of refarming, frees more capacity for 3G or 4G and doubles the average 3G or 4G throughput. Nokia Siemens Networks also offers planning and implementation services for re-farming 3G on 900 MHz and LTE on 1800 MHz.
