Ofcom confirms 7 bidders for 4G spectrum auction
UK communications regulator Ofcom has announced the bidders for the 4G mobile spectrum auction. Everything Everywhere, PCCW subsidiary HKT (UK), 3 UK, MLL Telecom, BT Group subsidiary Niche Spectrum Ventures, Telefonica UK and Vodafone UK have all qualified to bid in the auction, which will start in January 2013. Bidders will be competing for spectrum in two separate bands – 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz. These two bands add up to 250 MHz of additional mobile spectrum, compared to 333 MHz in use today. Both bands are being packaged into smaller lots for the auction.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced plans to auction some of its radio spectrum. At least five applications have been submitted to UK regulator Ofcom to participate in the 4G mobile spectrum auction, reports the Financial Times. UK regulator Ofcom said it welcomed the first applications to the UK's upcoming 4G auction. Data collected by mobile coverage company RootMetrics reveals patchy urban coverage of EE's new 4G service, reports BBC News. EE launches SIM-only 4G plans for customers

UK mobile network group EE has launched 4G SIM-only plans following a two-week delay. A company spokesperson told TechWeekEurope that the 4GEE SIM-only plans were initially available to purchase online or via telesales. The spokesperson said that they would soon be offered in store, adding that the 12-month SIM-only plans were GBP 15 per month cheaper than EE's 24-month plans. EE accuses Vodafone of misleading customers over 4G

UK mobile network group EE has accused rival Vodafone of 'misleading' customers by promising 4G services it may not be able to deliver, reports The Telegraph.
