Over 4.5 mln numbers ported in Brazil in 2010

Number portability was used by 4.54 million users in Brazil during 2010, up 3.8 percent compared to 2009, according to figures published by the Brazilian Association of Telecommunication Resources, the managing body for number portability. In December, there was a record migration in mobile services, with 300,000 transfers made, up from 296,000 a year earlier. In the fixed segment, the peak also occurred last month, with 163,000 transfers. Since the introduction of number portability in September 2008 (and successive implementation in March 2009), there have been a total 8.04 million numbers ported, of which 2.55 million were fixed phones and 5.49 million mobile phones.
