Paris region to invest EUR 15 mln a year in fibre rollout

The Ile-de-France region, which covers greater Paris, announced that it would invest EUR 15 million a year in its fibre plan and EUR 26 million a year in all digital projects from next year, according to local press reports. Its new regional strategy for economic development and innovation renews a certain number of existing projects and adds some new ones, including the fibre plan. The allocated funds represent a major increase compared to the region's expenditure of EUR 5.5 million a year, on average, between 2004 and 2011. Ile-de-France will also establish a specific support system for teleworkers and a name change for the regional IT agency, now called Agence Regionale du Numerique.
