Plus calls on govt to issue more 3G licences

Wednesday 21 September 2011 | 10:15 CET | News
Albanian mobile operator Plus Communication asked local authorities that 3G licenses be obtained shortly and simultaneously by the two other mobile companies with a reasonable price. This step would finally fully liberalise the market, offering the maximum benefits to customers, according to Plus. Plus insists that full liberalisation of 3G market would be the best way to offer Albanian consumers full competition and affordable prices for this service. According to Plus, awarding a second 3G licence does not fight the monopoly, but deepens the problem, enforcing an oligopoly position on the market. Plus Communication, the newest mobile operator on the Albanian market, has already built and developed the 3G technology, respective tariff system as well as all configured platforms to offer its clients full 3G services after receive a licence. Vodafone is since November 2010 the only 3G operator in Albania. OTE's AMC was the highest bidder in the tender recently organised by the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) to grant a second 3G mobile licence in the market.
