Rebtel unveils Rebtel 2.0 app for smartphone, desktop

Friday 14 October 2011 | 10:16 CET | News
Mobile VoIP provider Rebtel has launched Rebtel 2.0 applications for smartphone and desktop. Rebtel's 2.0 applications provide free international calls and integrates with users' contact lists on the phone and on the desktop. Its smartphone applications also end drop calling over VoIP with Rebtel's technology called KeepTalking. KeepTalking allows iPhone users to press a button to switch the connection from data to a user's call plan minutes using Rebtel local numbers. With the Rebtel applications, the sign up process is reduced to one step where the user connects their phone to the Rebtel network. After signup, the user can see which friends in their contact list they can call for free. Rebtel 2.0 works with each user's contact list. The company's mobile offerings integrate with the phone's native address book, while the PC application allows connecting with third-party services including Google Contacts and Facebook. Calls to friends who are running any Rebtel application on a smartphone or PC can be made for free over Wi-Fi/3G and using local minutes. Whenever a friend or business acquaintance in a users' contact list downloads Rebtel 2.0, a Push message is sent as a notification. The free iPhone application is available for download on Apple's App Store.
