Riehen sells cable network to UPC Cablecom

The Swiss community of Riehen has agreed to sell its cable network to UPC Cablecom. The latter will be contractually obliged to maintain subscription fees at CHF 17 per month until end-2015. The authorities have decided to sell the network in the face of strong competition from Swisscom, which plans to deploy a fibre-optic network in Riehen in the coming years.
