Safaricom extends BlackBerry to prepaid customers

Tuesday 15 April 2008 | 16:22 CET | News
Kenyan mobile service provider Safaricom has started offering BlackBerry services to prepaid customers. The company is offering the Blackberry 7130 to its prepaid customers for KES 20,000, which includes the handset and free unlimited internet and e-mail access for one month. Thereafter prepaid customers will be charged a monthly fee of KES 2,000 for unlimited internet and e-mail access. Early last year, Safaricom launched the Blackberry 8700g and 8100g smartphones to its postpaid customers. The devices operate in conjunction with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which integrates with Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise and IBM Lotus Domino and works with existing enterprise systems, to enable secure, push-based wireless access to e-mail and other corporate data.
