News
French mobile and broadband operator SFR has responded to the launch of low-cost subscriptions by market entrant Free Mobile by cutting the price of its Red mobile plans, which can only be taken up online. Subscriptions now cost between EUR 9.90 and EUR 24.90 a month, versus EUR 12 to EUR 34 previously. Citing information on SFR's Twitter account, AFP reports that the entry-level plan comes with 2 hours of calls, unlimited SMS and MMS. An second-tier plan costing EUR 19.90 includes unlimited calls in France and to fixed lines in 46 countries. At EUR 24.90 a month, customers are offered 1 GB of mobile data, which can be topped up, plus unlimited access to SFR's 4 million hotspot Wi-Fi network. The new subscriptions will become available, with no contract tie-in period, from the week of 16 January.
