Silver Peak releases Gbps WAN optimisation appliance

Tuesday 7 June 2011 | 06:40 CET | News

WAN optimisation provider Silver Peak Systems has released its NX-10000 (NX-10K) appliance. The Silver Peak NX-10K is a Gbps WAN optimisation appliance built for enhanced data centres supporting cloud and virtualisation architectures. The NX-10K is the addition to Silver Peak's range of physical and virtual WAN optimisation appliances. The Silver Peak NX-10K enables customers ‘future-proof’ the data centre for these emerging deployments with four 10Gbps interfaces, 2.5Gbps of WAN throughput, and optimisation for all IP traffic and applications in a single appliance. With a two-rack-unit (2U) form-factor, the NX-10K is a high capacity WAN optimisation appliance. The appliance supports 2.5Gbps of WAN bandwidth with 256,000 simultaneous sessions. The NX-10K appliance includes a 1.6 terabyte resilient local data store using SSDs, and includes four 10Gbps Ethernet interfaces to enhance networking deployments in data centres configured for 10Gbps connectivity. The Silver Peak NX-10K appliance uses the same network optimisation techniques as the entire family of Silver Peak NX physical appliances, and VX and VRX virtual appliances.

Silver Peak NX-10K’s Network Acceleration overcomes WAN latency and mitigates the impact of latency across the WAN by using protocol acceleration techniques, including the adjustment of TCP window sizes, selective TCP acknowledgements, and CIFS read-ahead and write-behinds. Network Integrity corrects packet delivery issues common with cloud and MPLS technologies, using adaptive Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Packet Order Correction (POC) technology to rebuild lost and out-of-order packets in real-time. Advanced QoS techniques prioritise traffic, while granular traffic shaping policies to guarantee network resources. Network Memory works to maximise WAN bandwidth utilisation. Silver Peak's system for disk-based WAN deduplication maximises available WAN bandwidth across an enterprise. Network Memory inspects all traffic at the byte level and stores copies of content in high-capacity disk drives and SSDs. Advanced finger-printing techniques recognise repetitive patterns for local delivery, eliminating the transfer of duplicate data across the WAN. The Silver Peak NX-10K and the entire family of Silver Peak physical and virtual WAN optimisation appliances are available from Silver Peak, Silver Peak's network of reseller partners, and Silver Peak's global resale partners including Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), Dell, and EMC. Pricing for Silver Peak's family of physical and virtual WAN optimisation appliances starts at USD 2,995, and pricing for the NX-10K for enhanced data centres is USD 299,995.
