T-Mobile Czech Republic launches HD Voice

Thursday 27 October 2011 | 12:40 CET | News
T-Mobile Czech Republic, as the first operator in the country, launched HD Voice. It will be available in the whole 3G network (65 percent coverage of the population). For a higher quality of voice, HD Voice uses codec WB-AMR (WideBand Adaptive MultiRate compression), which will replace the current NB-AMR (NarrowBand Adaptive MultiRate compression) in the 3G network. NB-AMR operates on frequencies 300 to 3,400 Hz, and the new WB-AMR operates on the range 50 to 7,000 Hz. For using HD Voice, a calling and called party need to have a phone supporting HD Voice. T-Mobile currently offers the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia Arc, Xperia Ray and Xperia Mini Pro to support the service. During November, the operator will add the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active, Xperia Arc S and Nokia 500. By the end of the year, in the event of favourable test results, the Nokia N8, E6, E7 and 700 will also be added.
