T-Mobile UK applies mobile data limit to new customers only

T-Mobile UK has moved to clarify its new Fair Use Policy for mobile data. On 10 January, the operator said that mobile data use would be limited to 500 MB a month for all mobile phone customers with effect from 01 February. However, following a further review of its policy, T-Mobile UK vice president Lysa Hardy said that the new policy would now only apply to new and upgrading customers, not existing customers. In a statement, Hardy apologised for any confusion and insisted that there would no changes to data packages for existing customers for the duration of their contract. She said that the revision of the Fair Use Policy was designed to ensure an improved quality of service for all mobile internet users. From 01 February, new and upgrading customers will be given a monthly 500 MB data allowance. There will be no charge for those customers exceeding that limit, and those who do will still be able to access important services such as email and web browsing, however file downloading and streaming services will be restricted. Customers will then have the option to increase their monthly Fair Use Policy to 1 GB a month by purchasing a Mobile Broadband Booster.
