Tele2 claims first with voice over LTE in Sweden

Tele2 announced that it has tested voice over LTE on its live Swedish LTE network. Tele2 said it is the first operator in Europe to have tested voice over LTE. Tele2 said that the tests showed a much better voice experience on the IP-based LTE network compared to 2G and 3G networks. 

The tests were conducted in a fully end-to-end standards compliant manner using technology from Mavenir Systems and Nokia Siemens Networks. VoLTE technology improves voice quality significantly and enables much faster call set-up times. VoLTE is the next generation technology for transporting voice traffic as an IP data stream in LTE.

Tele2 grows sales, EBITDA in Sweden, customer numbers down

Tele2 Sweden reported a drop in customer numbers in the first quarter but continued to grow revenues and EBITDA. The mobile customer base fell by 34,000 versus December to a total 3.723 million. Mobile sales were still up 2.4 percent from a year earlier to SEK 2.43 billion, and EBITDA improved to SEK 732 million from SEK 656 million a year ago. Tele2, Telenor test LTE Advanced with Huawei kit in Sweden

Tele2 Sweden and Telenor Sweden have tested the first versions of LTE Advanced and reached speeds of 290 Mbps. The tests were conducted with the network provider Huawei in the 2,600 MHz band. Tele2's 4G network now covers 5 million people and the operator's goal is to increase coverage to 99 percent of the population by the end of 2012.
