Telekom Deutschland does not fear Vodafone IPTV competition

Telekom Deutschland does not fear competition from Vodafone Germany's IPTV service that needs a 2 Mbps DSL connection compared to 16 Mbps for Telekom's IPTV service Entertain, according to Telekom Deutschland's marketing director Christian Illek in an interview with teltarif.de. He said that Telekom selected 16 Mbps to be able to provide the highest quality possible to its customers and has no plans to offer IPTV via lower speeds as the operator expects average bandwidth availability to increase due to deployment of FTTx networks in which it invests heavily. With regards to Telekom's dual-play pricing, which is around EUR 10 per month higher than competitors offer (EUR 40 versus EUR 30 per month), Illek said that the additional services offered by the operator like free service hotline, good disruption repair service and security tools, compensate the higher monthly fees, which is shown in constant market share of around 40 percent of quarterly DSL net additions since 2007.
