Telenor Norway launches LTE network in 11 localities

Telenor is launching its LTE network in 11 cities and towns in Norway, namely in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Lorenskog, Sandnes, Lillestrom, Asker, Baerum, Lofthus in Hardanger and Longyearbyen. The network will continue to be developed at a rapid pace, and more than one in three Norwegians will have 4G coverage from Telenor by 31 December. By the end of 2012, Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg, Skien, Porsgrunn, Drammen and Kristiansand will have 4G coverage from Telenor. After this, an ambitious extension programme will continue until the whole of Norway is covered. Tromso will be covered in the first quarter of 2013.

Only PC and tablet users are able to receive Telenor-4G when it is launched, while mobile users will have it in good time for Christmas. With 4G, users can reach download speeds of up to 40 Mbps. The speed for each individual customer depends on the number of users located in an area at the same time, plus the distance to and position of the nearest mobile mast. Concomitant with the launch of LTE, Telenor is also extending its 3G coverage.
