TV Globo, NHK to test 8K technology during Rio Carnival

Monday 11 February 2013 | 09:37 CET | News
This year's Brazilian Lenten Carnival will serve as a test for one of the newest technologies for TV images. The festivities in Rio de Janeiro will be shot in Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV), also known as 8K. The resolution is sixteen times better than the current standard. Tests will be done by the Japanese broadcaster NHK in partnership with Brazil's TV Globo. It will be the first time that this platform has been tested in Brazil. The Japanese broadcaster will screen a special programme showing footage behind the scenes of Carnival in 8K, in Japan, during the first half of this year.
