Vodafone Australia launches DC HSPA+ technology
Vodafone Australia has launched a critical phase of its AUD 1.7 billion network upgrade, with all base station sites now equipped with the latest Dual Carrier HSPA+ and 4G-ready network technology. The Dual Carrier HSPA+ services are available in certain parts of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, Adelaide and Newcastle. The operator also plans to roll out LTE from early next year.

Vodafone Australia starts LTE network tests

Vodafone Australia announced the start of LTE network tests. The company is testing data speeds, MMS services and call handover on 10MHz of spectrum in the 1800MHz band in Sydney's Eastern suburbs. At launch, the operator will use a full 20MHz for the 4G service in Sydney, which it noted is more than rivals Telstra and Optus. Vodafone said the initial tests with category 3 devices showed calls for voice, MMS and SMS "went off without a hitch", while speeds measured on the speedtest.net app reached 60-67Mbps

Vodafone Australia CEO admits error over smartphone rollouts

Vodafone Hutchison Australia's (VHA) chief executive Bill Morrow has said that his company made mistakes by not anticipating the fast roll-out of smartphones, reports Inside Business. Morrow says the Vodafone network crashed in 2010 because of a lack of investment in infrastructure to support its network. Improvements should be noticed during 2013. Virgin, Vodafone, Optus, Telstra to offer iPhone 5

Australian mobile operators Virgin Mobile, Optus, Vodafone and Telstra have opened pre-registrations for the Apple iPhone 5, which will be available from 21 September. Vodafone said that the device will be compatible with the its upcoming LTE network. Meanwhile, Telecom New Zealand said it will offer the phone from 28 September and opened pre-registration.
