European Telecom Reform is taking shape
The European Commission, in conjunction with the European Parliament and the Council of Telecom Ministers, is working on a regulatory overhaul. Late November the Council made a number of changes, which will now be discussed between the EC, the EP and the Council. If all goes well, a final version could be ready by mid 2009. The original EC plans, including the EP approved version of September 23 2008, have been drastically 'watered down', as many commentators put it. However, it appears likely that Viviane Reding, who is in charge of the reform within the EC, will be quite satisfied with the results. This brief provides an overview of all individual measures of the reform package.
