The network is no longer a differentiator
Network operators are increasingly moving away from running their own networks. Managed services for network outsourcing have become commonplace. Network sharing was added as a tool for reducing the cost of building out new networks, mainly 3G, 4G, mobile TV and FTTH. The latest round of developments centres on network separation. This could very well signal another step away from running the network, and instead focusing on service provision. The current global financial and economic crisis will add support to this argument. In this brief, we look at how industry players are turning from network operators into services providers.
