Large differences in cost of online payment methods - survey

The costs of online payment methods vary greatly, a survey in the Netherlands shows. Shop owners pay transactions costs ranging from 0.3 percent to 2.9 percent of sales. (Small) webshops pay an estimated EUR 250 million per year to accept online payments. The actual cost however depends on several factors according to a market report. Since 2005, the Dutch government, banks and several sector organizations (retail, catering) cooperate to promote efficiency in retail payment.
