NFC card payments rule in Czech market, mobile will follow

Thursday 6 August 2015 | 09:19 CET | Author: Bart Garvelink | Background
The Czech Republic is one of the countries in the EU with a high usage of contactless card payments at point of sale. According to MasterCard, more than half of all card payments are handled over NFC. The country's leading banks and operators support NFC-based mobile payments. The operators have launched their own services, while a group of banks has launched an operator-independent mobile wallet, Mobito. The uptake of mobile banking apps has helped to pave the way for new smartphone based mobile payment services, expected in the second half of this year.
