Telefonica/E-Plus deal could hit objections from regulators

The agreement between Telefonica Germany and KPN about the sale of KPN's German subsidiary E-Plus to Telefonica Germany for EUR 5 billion in cash and a 17.6 percent stake in the new combination did not come as a surprise as talks and rumours about talks have been ongoing between Telefonica and KPN since the beginning of this century. The combination becomes the largest mobile operator with regards to subscribers and the third largest with regards to mobile service revenues, while at the same time keeping up, although still smaller, with the Vodafone/Kabel Deutschland combination, which was
