Thursday 14 January 2010 | 14:34 CET | Author: Marion ter Welle | Background
Kuwaiti based mobile operator Zain has expanded its mobile commerce service Zap in Sub Saharan Africa from three to six countries. Recently added were services in Niger, Sierra Leone and Malawi, following the successful launch in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, although in Malawi it is still in the phase of a commercial pilot. The expansion into six counties means that the Zap service is now available to around 150 million people in Africa. Zap was first introduced in Kenya and Tanzania in February 2009, followed by Uganda in June 2009.
