Vodafone research highlights risk to kids of unsafe chatbot design

Vodafone UK has announced a new campaign focusing on the features of AI chatbots to mark Safer Internet Day. The campaign comes as new research from the company shows that a human-like characteristics and a lack of safe design are influencing how children engage with AI chatbots. The research found that the majority (81%) of children aged 11-16 years use AI chatbots; with almost one third (31%) of users in this age group saying the chatbot was like a friend, asking it for advice on difficult situations (24%

Airspan targets 25-30% annual growth as 2025 revenues lift by more than a fifth

Airspan is guiding for 25-30 percent revenue growth in the current fiscal year after achieving a 20 percent lift in 2025, driven by strong fundamentals in all three business segments. Group sales topped USD 115 million in FY25, and Airspan's Q4 turnover lifted by a similar proportion to USD 45 million amid solid traction in Airspan's In-Building, Open RAN, and Air-to-Ground businesses.

Telefonica to lay off a quarter of staff at Movistar+ pay-TV unit

Around 25 percent of the workforce at Telefonica's pay-TV unit Movistar+ will leave the company under the company's latest collective dismissal process (ERE) in Spain, reports Expansion, citing union sources. A total of 213 employees out of a total of 860 have agreed to leave Movistar+ on a voluntary basis, meaning there will be no forced redundancies, said the sources.

Azerbaijan operator Bakcell has launched its online shop. Customers can buy mobile devices and other tech products on the Bakcell Shop. Subscribers can purchase smartphones on installment over up to 18 months without upfront payment or price increase. They are also offered a 20 GB monthly bonus throughout the installment period. Free delivery of purchased goods is offered to all regions across the country.

Swisscom subsidiary Cablex plans job cuts

Cablex, the fibre-optic subsidiary of Swisscom, plans to cut a double-digit number of jobs. Roger Baur, Head of Communications at Cablex, confirmed the plan to the publication 20 Minuten, adding that "all affected individuals have already been informed". The job cuts are the result of price pressure in infrastructure construction, triggered by intense market competition. Increasing automation and the uncertain economic outlook also played a role, according to Baur.

Elisa moves Industriq CEO to head of consumer business

Elisa said it has appointed Henri Korpi as EVP for consumer customer business with effect from 10 February, replacing Vesa-Pekka Nikula, who will leave the operator in August. Mikko Soirola will succeed Korpi as CEO of Elisa Industriq and join the executive board from 30 March. Soirola has extensive experience in international software and has most recently served as CEO of Finago and Accountor Software.

Kyrgyzstan operator Sky Mobile, trading under the Beeline Kyrgyzstan brand, announced a tender for selection of partners for running its shops and service centres. The partner will be offered marketing and media support, including targeted bundles of advertising SMS to subscribers of the operator. The operator will also cover utility and cleaning expenses of shops. Applications can be submitted for running one or several selected shops. The deadline is 16 February.

European Commission says cyber attack on MDM systems was addressed within 9 hours

The European Commission was hit by a cyber-attack on its central infrastructure for managing mobile devices on 30 January. The response effort, supported by CERT-EU, the central cybersecurity service for all EU institutions, has successfully contained the threat and had IT systems cleaned out entirely within nine hours.

CMA CGM taps Marlink to strengthen maritime fleet's connectivity with Oneweb service

French shipping and logistics group CMA CGM, an anchor shareholder of Eutelsat group, has signed a new agreement to equip more than 300 of its vessels with multi-LEO (Low Earth Orbit) connectivity. The project will be carried out by the group's long-standing partner and satellite service provider Marlink, which will integrate Eutelsat's Oneweb LEO service into a broader hybrid network architecture tailored to CMA CGM's requirements, building on the existing combination of LEO and GEO capabilities.

Alphabet launches major debt issue

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has launched a major debt issue. According to a prospectus filed with the SEC, the issue will have seven series with varying maturities, with the proceeds going to "general corporate purposes", including refinancing existing debt. The Financial Times reported citing market sources that the issue will include a 100-year bond, in the company's debut offering in pound sterling, as well as USD 20 billion in dollar debt and a Swiss franc issue.

BT Group announced leadership changes at Openreach and BT International. From 01 April, Katie Milligan, currently Deputy CEO at Openreach, will take over from Clive Selley as CEO of Openreach. Selley will become CEO of BT International, replacing Bas Burger, who is leaving BT Group after 18 years.

Proact IT Q4 revenue falls 5% but sees prospects in Europe amid concerns over US cloud provision

Proact IT has announced a drop of near 5 percent in fourth quarter revenue as challenges continued in its West and Central business units and amid weaker system sales. Even so, it says it has a strong position in the Nordic, Baltic and UK markets and is concentrating on driving profitable growth in 2026. European concerns about dependency on US cloud providers is among factors supporting Proact IT's business.

Indosat's profit jumps more than 12% in 2025, ARPU climbs 6.4%

Indonesian operator Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) posted revenue of IDR 15.36 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2025, which represents an increase of 9 percent quarter-on-quarter. Revenue for the twelve months of 2025 reached IDR 56.5 trillion, up from IDR 55.89 trillion in 2024. IOH also reports that its net profit rose 12.2 percent year-on-year to IDR 5.5 trillion in 2025.

Vodafone Spain's second brand Lowi has launched two new 'operator attack' convergent offers aimed at current Digi Spain customers, reports ADSL Zone. Ooredoo Group said its revenue increased 8 percent year-on-year to QAR 6.43 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025. EBITDA also grew by 8 percent, to QAR 2.52 billion, for a stable EBITDA margin of 39.2 percent. Reported net profit rose by 51 percent to QAR 776 million, while normalized net profit surged by 24 percent QAR 960 million. Kena gifts Telepass service and fuel cashback to all subs

Telecom Italia's low-cost brand Kena has officially launched a promotion giving all users access to the Telepass Sempre service of electronic toll collection operator Telepass for free for 12 months. Following last year's agreement between TIM and Telepass to launch joint commercial deals, Kena subscribers who sign up to Telepass via the latter's app will be able to access Telepass Sempre.

Chad seeks changes to agreement with telecom operators over fibre link

Chad is seeking to revise an agreement with telecom operators Sotel and Airtel as it moves to restart work on the N'Djamena–Mbere fibre-optic route. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding in April 2025, but the deal was later suspended after authorities raised concerns that some provisions conflicted with principles of digital sovereignty. TIM to hike cost of more prepay plans by up to EUR 3 a month from 15 March

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced on its website that a new set of existing prepay customers will be subject to a price increase of up to EUR 2.99 a month applied to their plans starting on 15 March. The move follows a similar unilateral price hike announced for other mobile plans earlier this year, all of which the operator attributed to "economic needs connected to changes in market conditions."
