1&1 Drillisch in advanced talks with suppliers to build OpenRAN 5G network

German operator 1&1 Drillisch is in advanced talks with three suppliers to build an OpenRAN 5G network, Golem.de reports. The company's goal is to build a "high-performance 5G network", explained the CEO of 1&1's parent company United Internet, Ralph Dommermuth. 1&1 plans to set up a network that is "completely virtualised", on the model of infrastructure built by Rakuten in Japan with Cisco and NEC, the CEO said.
