A quarter of Italians only access internet via mobile - study

Over a quarter (26%) of Italian consumers access the internet exclusively via their smartphones or tablets, according to a report from ComScore. The figure is far higher than countries such as Germany, the UK and the US, where just 4 percent, 8 percent and 12 percent of consumers spend time online via mobile devices alone. In addition, smartphones and tablets account for around 62 percent of the total time spent by Italians online.

Other findings revealed in the report include the fact that apps account for around 87 percent of the time spent by Italian consumers smartphones and tablets but only 11 apps reach an audience penetration of around 20 percent, compared to 20 in the US and 17 in the UK. However, only 50 percent of Italian users actively download new apps, with 64 percent of active downloaders falling in the 18-34 age range.
