ACMA issues fine of AUD 34,000 for telemarketing

Tuesday 3 May 2016 | 15:38 CET | News
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) fined a financial services company with a AUD 34,000 after telemarketing calls were made in breach of the 'Do not call register act.' An investigation found that Premium Finance Services engaged a call centre to make telemarketing calls on its behalf, and calls were made to numbers on the 'Do not call register.' The act applies to those who engage others to make calls for them as well as those who actually make the calls. Organisations which fail to meet their obligations under this act risk significant penalties, the authority said.
