African broadband goal needs more satellite use - research

Satellite communications have a crucial role to play in helping to bridge the digital divide that currently disenfranchises large parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a new report from the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) and sponsored by satellite operator Avanti Communications. African Information Communication Technologies Ministers set a target of 80 percent broadband penetration by 2020 at the ICT Indaba in Cape Town in June.
